Liverpool make’surprise £58m bid’ for Real Madrid attacker after Salah drops’mega-money’ demand

Liverpool are willing to spend €70 million (£58 million) on Real Madrid attacker Arda Guler as a potential replacement for Mohamed Salah, according to sources.

The Egypt international does not appear to be concerned that he has yet to receive a renewal offer to extend a contract that is set to expire in the summer, and after setting a new Liverpool record of 20 or more goals in seven consecutive seasons, his start to the new season suggests he is well on his way to extending that.

Just over a year ago, Saudi Arabian club Al Ittihad made a £150 million offer for Salah, who has seven goals and seven assists in 12 appearances across all competitions this season, with Liverpool stating that he was not for sale.

There was also speculation during the most recent summer transfer window, but there was little tangible interest, and now whispers have begun about whether Salah will sign a new contract or depart for free next June.

According to a recent story in Football Insider, Salah ‘wants a mega-money three-year deal’ to stay at Liverpool, despite the fact that the Reds are normally hesitant about awarding long-term contracts to players in their 30s. Guler joined Real Madrid from Fenerbahce in the summer of 2023, but he has yet to receive the minutes he expected when he signed the contract.

Liverpool sees this as ‘a rare opportunity to acquire Guler, a player with a creative profile, a disruptive player, and a tremendous vision of the game, something that would fit well into Slot’s approach for next season’.

His lack of playing time at Real Madrid ‘may inspire the young Turk to make the switch to the Premier League, where he would have a leading role from the start’.
